In the internal combustion engine application, the timing belt / chain connects the crankshaft to the camshaft(s), which in turn controls the opening and closing of the engine's valves. Depending on the manufacturer and type of engine used timing belt or cam chain. Timing belt is exposed to excessive wear and after a fair number of mil engine manufacturer to recommend timing belt replacement.
